About

Overview & Vibe

Ivory and Stone is a Melbourne letterpress studio making bespoke wedding stationery for couples here and overseas, and it has been going since 2018. You choose from a set of named design collections rather than starting from a blank page, then personalise the wording, inks, envelopes and finishes. The printing is done in house on an eighty year old press.

Style & Printing

Letterpress on one hundred per cent cotton paper is the house style, with foil, envelope embossing, wax seals, belly bands and silk ribbon offered as embellishments. The look is restrained and classic rather than busy: the studio describes its aim as stationery that transcends trends and time, and its own collection notes favour understated, minimal layouts that let the paper and the printing carry the piece.

Ideal For

Couples who want letterpress specifically, and who like the idea of a curated collection they can personalise rather than a design built from scratch. It suits anyone planning well ahead, because the lead time is real, and anyone marrying overseas, since the studio ships worldwide. Note the minimum order, which is fifty pieces per item.

The Need-to-Knows

Invitations start at $1,400 for seventy five sets, and there is a minimum of fifty pieces per item. Pricing beyond that is quoted: you send the quote request form and hear back with a proposal, generally within two business days. A fifty per cent deposit books the job, and Afterpay is available. Allow eight to ten weeks once your wording is in, with five business days to the first proof, two rounds of revisions included and further proofs charged, then ten business days for digital print or fifteen to twenty for letterpress and foil. Wording, ink and envelope colours can be changed; the layout and fonts cannot. A rush order attracts a thirty per cent fee if the studio can fit it in.

Standout Feature

The sample pack, at $35. Letterpress is a tactile thing and hard to judge on a screen, so holding the cotton stock and seeing the impression before committing to a four figure order is worth the outlay. It ships worldwide too.

Appointment Policy

  • There is no studio appointment to book. You choose a collection and send the quote request form, which asks for your date so the studio can check availability, and it replies with a proposal. Expect about two business days for a response, and the studio says a custom proposal follows within forty eight hours of the form. A fifty per cent deposit and signed terms confirm the booking. A $35 sample pack is the way to see the work in person first.

Areas Serviced

  • We're based in Melbourne, Australia and ship invitations worldwide.
  • Orders are taken from couples in Australia and overseas, and the studio has been shipping worldwide since 2018.

Booking & Deposit

  • A fifty per cent deposit, paid after you approve the quote and sign the terms, confirms the booking. Afterpay is also offered.

Delivery & Postage

  • Orders are inspected, counted and packed in the studio's own packaging, then sent express with tracking. Shipping to you is generally about a week on top of the production time. The studio ships worldwide, including its sample packs.

Minimum Order

  • Fifty pieces per item is the published minimum. The headline invitation figure is quoted against seventy five sets.

Nearby Landmarks

  • Melbourne CBD and the Yarra, the city the studio prints in.
  • Fitzroy and Collingwood, the inner northern suburbs next to the city centre.
  • Yarra Valley, the wine region about an hour east of Melbourne.
  • Mornington Peninsula, the coast and vineyards about an hour south east.
  • Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges, spa and country districts north west of the city.

Price Notes

  • The $1,400 figure buys seventy five invitation sets; it is not a per-card rate and not a floor for a smaller order. Everything beyond it is quoted from your requirements, with a minimum of fifty pieces per item. A fifty per cent deposit books the job and Afterpay is offered. Two rounds of proof revisions are included, after which proofs are $75 each, or $50 on some ranges, and a rush order carries a thirty per cent fee. Separately, the shop sells a $35 sample pack, $75 vow books and $9 proposal cards; those are accessories and not a guide to invitation pricing.

Printing Methods

Proofs & Revisions

  • Three rounds of digital proofs are included. The first proof comes back within five business days and matches your order exactly, then two rounds of revisions are included; further proofs are invoiced at $75 each, or $50 on some ranges. Revisions cover your wording and the ink, paper or envelope colours. The layout and the fonts cannot be changed. Allow a further three to five business days for each revision, and nothing goes to print until you approve it.

Within that: five business days to the first digital proof, three to five business days per revision round, then ten business days for digital printing or fifteen to twenty for letterpress and foil, plus shipping. Once artwork is approved the studio asks for five weeks to produce invitations. Its own planning timeline suggests ordering eight to six months before the wedding. A rush order is possible if capacity allows and carries a thirty per cent fee.
