About

Overview & Vibe

Polka Dot Paper is a Melbourne wedding stationery studio, founded in 2016, which says it operates out of Melbourne and London and works with couples around the world. Its own line is modern luxe: twenty-eight ready-made collections to choose from, each one customisable, plus a fully custom service if none of them is quite right.

Style & Printing

Six printing methods are offered and each is explained in plain terms - colour printing, digital metallics, hot foil, blind embossing, letterpress and white ink - including which of them can print each guest’s name and which cannot. Papers run from uncoated matte and textured stock to cotton, transparent vellum, handmade deckle-edge and 3mm acrylic. Shapes are part of the offer too: arches, pebbles, scallops, wavy edges and layered combinations, with custom shapes made to order.

Ideal For

Couples who want to choose a look from a large ready-made range and then change the colours, shapes and printing to suit, rather than starting from a blank page. The range runs well past invitations into welcome signs, seating charts, menus, place cards, table numbers, vow books, napkins and acrylic wishing wells, so the whole day can be coordinated.

The Need-to-Knows

  • The minimum order is 30 pieces.
  • Printed invitations from the collections are listed from $160. The listing does not say how many pieces that figure covers, so confirm the quantity when you order.
  • A digital save the date is $50 and a digital invitation is $70. Those are files to send, not printed cards.
  • For invitations, allow four to six weeks for a collection design and six to ten weeks for a custom one. Turnaround depends on the printing method and on how quickly you reply.
  • Two rounds of changes are included, on top of the first design proof.
  • Some premium cardstocks cost extra, and the studio will do its best to help with a rush order for a rush fee.
  • A few colours are offered for envelopes only and not for paper, so check before you set your palette.

Standout Feature

Hot foil, blind embossing and letterpress cannot be personalised with each guest’s name, and colour printing, digital metallics and white ink can. The studio tells you so for every method before you choose, which is the kind of detail most couples only discover after they have fallen for a finish.

Appointment Policy

  • Collection designs are bought straight from the studio's own shop: choose your design, shapes, colours and printing, and check out online.
  • You can also fill in the contact form instead, and the studio will email you an invoice to get started.
  • Samples are not personalised, so a sample pack is the way to see the paper and printing before you commit.

Areas Serviced

  • The studio says it operates out of Melbourne and London, and that it helps couples across the globe.
  • It ships to Australia, the United States and Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe, and publishes an estimated delivery time for each.

Delivery & Setup

  • Orders are printed and posted to you. Once dispatched, the studio estimates one to three working days within Australia.
  • It also ships overseas, estimating three to five working days to the United States and Canada, one to two to the United Kingdom, and four to Europe.
  • Sample packs travel separately, with estimated times from dispatch of two to five working days within Australia, and two to four weeks to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe.

Minimum Order

  • 30 pieces

Nearby Landmarks

  • Melbourne city centre – the studio's Australian base, though it works online and posts orders out rather than keeping a shopfront.
  • Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria – thirty-eight hectares of lawns and lakes beside the Yarra, and a wedding venue in its own right.
  • Fitzroy Gardens – elm avenues and a conservatory on the edge of the central city.
  • The Yarra Valley – vineyards and cellar doors about an hour north-east, where many Victorian weddings are held.
  • The Mornington Peninsula – coastline and wineries about ninety minutes south.

Price Notes

  • The listed price of a design does not say how many pieces it covers, and the minimum order is 30. Confirm the quantity before you order.
  • Six premium cardstock colours cost extra, and two further colours are offered for envelopes only rather than for paper. Check both before you settle on a palette.
  • Personalisation with individual guest names is not available with hot foil, blind embossing or letterpress. Colour printing, digital metallics and white ink all allow it.
  • The studio will do its best to help if you need a rush order, and a rush fee applies. Contact it before you order rather than after.
  • One design is listed at two different prices in different places on the site, so ask which applies before you order it.
  • Where a deposit is requested it is not refundable, the balance falls due before printing, and a quote is held for seven days.

Proofs & Revisions

  • Two rounds of changes are included, on top of that first proof.
  • Any outstanding payment falls due once you approve the final proof, and printing follows.

Turnaround Time

  • For invitations, allow four to six weeks for a collection design and six to ten weeks for a custom one.
  • Turnaround depends on the printing method you choose and on how quickly you reply - hot foil in particular takes longer than colour printing.
  • The studio recommends booking on-the-day stationery two to three months ahead, and your wording, guest names and seating plan must reach it no later than five to six weeks before the wedding.
  • If you are short of time the studio asks you to contact it before ordering, and it will do its best to help. A rush fee applies.
