The Blue Water Function Centre occupies the first floor of Swansea RSL Club, on absolute waterfront where the Swansea Channel runs out of Lake Macquarie into the Pacific.

Setting & Style

Two rooms carry the weddings. The Blue Water Function Room sits metres back from the channel edge and takes a hundred and eighty seated, with full bar facilities, private amenities, air conditioning, audio-visual and room for a large dance floor; its grand undercover balcony is where guests end up. The Blue Water Lounge, with its own adjoining balcony, suits smaller receptions of up to sixty. The Charmers Room, glass-panelled along two walls with ocean views, is the third option. Ceremonies can be held on the balcony itself, or at any of a dozen spots the club recommends within minutes — Eddie Charlton Reserve just outside the door, Pirrita Island, Caves Beach headland, Blacksmiths Beach, Catherine Hill Bay.

Ceremony packages are priced separately from the reception. On-site ceremony packages, held in either function space: the 'I Do' package is $500 and includes hire of the space, 24 chairs from the reception, and a registry table with two chairs; the True Love package is $800 and adds two pedestals with silk floral arrangements and a choice of red, white or black carpet aisle; the Romance package is $985 and includes the carpet aisle plus a choice of white arbour. Outdoor ceremony packages are $950 for all packages and include 24 white Americana chairs, a white wood signing table with two white Americana chairs, a white frame arch with sheer white drapes, a choice of white, black or red aisle runner, and delivery, installation and removal. Wet-weather backup using the Charmers Function Room or Blue Water Lounge and balcony is $350, reduced to $300 when booked in conjunction with an outdoor ceremony package; the space is left empty for the couple's own items and at least 2.5 hours' notice is required to use it on the day. Outdoor ceremony packages do not include the required Council Permit, which couples must arrange directly with Lake Macquarie Council on (02) 4921 0333 for use of public spaces; the club warns that holding a permit does not guarantee the lawns will be mowed or maintained beforehand, and that Council may charge extra for services such as mowing. Reception packages come in four set options - Promise, Sweethearts, Forever and a Cocktail package - each with 6 hours' room hire, white tablecloths and napkins, bridal, cake and gift table skirting, a mirror cake table, champagne on arrival, arrival catering, tea and coffee service, wedding cake cut and served, and DJ entertainment for 5 hours on the Promise package or 5.5 hours on Sweethearts and Forever. Arrival catering rises from cheese and antipasto platters on Promise, to cheese, antipasto and hot finger food on Sweethearts, to a chef's selection of canapes on Forever; main catering is a one-course buffet of two meats and three sides on Promise and a two-course plated meal on the other two, with the wedding cake itself included on Forever. Couples with fewer than 50 guests can build a custom package using their own suppliers.
