Briars Atlas is Oli Sansom, a Melbourne wedding and elopement photographer of more than a decade who has been commissioned on every continent. About half the bookings are international and half are in Australia. The stated ethos is that love and community matter, and that representing them honestly is the real luxury.
Quiet, observational and unmistakably film-led. He shoots 35mm and medium-format alongside digital, and describes an equal emphasis on sublime, quiet moments and carefully caught romance as on the gloriously absurd tapestry of being human. His own line for the method is that the moments are observed, not interfered with.
Couples who want a record made rather than a day directed, and who are as comfortable with a five-day intimate elopement up a mountain as with a reception for three hundred. He says there is no such thing as a specialist and that good photography does not distinguish between the two.
Fees vary with location, the length of coverage and how much film is shot, and southern-hemisphere weddings. A retainer secures the date, held on a first-paid basis. Enquiries are answered within 48 hours, and couples get unrestricted access to him through the planning period, with a portal for booking catch-ups.
