Tracy Hebden photographs weddings out of Canberra, and her own summary of the job is “hanging out at your wedding like a guest with a camera”. The work is relaxed and documentary: no awkward posing, plenty of dance floor, and a photographer who aims to be everywhere and nowhere at once. She has been shooting since well before 2014 and has a wall of Epson ACT awards for documentary, wedding and family work.
She describes wanting to capture relaxed, documentary-style photographs, staying as unobtrusive as possible while the story unfolds, and she is candid about the trade-off: quality over quantity, 50 to 100 frames per hour of coverage rather than a thousand. Portraits are built around finding good light, ideally in the hour before sunset, and around couples feeling like they have space to be themselves. Rain is treated as an opportunity rather than a problem.
Couples marrying around Canberra and the Canberra District wine country — Gundaroo, Murrumbateman, Collector and Springrange — who want the day documented as it happens rather than staged. It suits people who dislike being photographed, since making that comfortable is explicitly her job, and it suits small weddings just as well as large ones: a two-hour elopement collection sits alongside a nine-hour package with a second shooter.
Wedding collections run from $1,600 for a two-hour small wedding or elopement capped at 30 guests, then $2,950 for three hours, $3,450 for five, $4,350 for seven and $5,500 for nine hours with a second shooter included. Every package covers a pre-wedding consultation, planning support, retouched high-resolution images ready to print, an online highlights reel and an online gallery, and delivers roughly 300 to 800 photographs. Albums start at $600, a second photographer from $350, and travel beyond the Canberra region is usually $200 to $400.
