About

Overview & Vibe

The Bridehouse Bulimba is a designer-owned bridal atelier on Oxford Street, the cafe strip that runs through Brisbane’s riverside Bulimba. It is not a stockist. Every gown on the rail is the boutique’s own label, designed by director Gabrielle Spencer and made behind the arched doors at the back of the shop, which means the person who drew your dress is the person you meet at your fitting. Boutique manager Sharyn Price handles everything from the first enquiry to collection day.

Dress Styles & Designers

One label, made in-house: the Gabrielle Spencer collection, refreshed annually and currently showing the 2026 range. Eighty-one gowns are published with prices, spanning structured Mikado ballgowns, corseted princess silhouettes with full skirts, column and sheath crepes, beaded mermaids and softer A-lines, with a floral capsule and a small run of capes, furs and veils alongside. Fabrics are bought at the top end - laces from the old Calais mills and silks chosen for the individual gown. Above the ready range sits Gabrielle Spencer Couture, a fully bespoke commission from $6,000 limited to a handful of brides a year.

Ideal For

The bride who wants to change something. Because the gowns are cut in the building, bodices and skirts can be combined, sleeves added and fabrics swapped, and you leave the first appointment with a sketch and a firm quote rather than a maybe. It also suits brides who want one address for the whole job: the alterations room is literally on site, and the team is one of Brisbane’s busiest for gowns bought elsewhere.

The Need-to-Knows

Appointments are essential and run an hour, with room for up to five guests. Sample gowns are sizes 8 to 16 and the made-to-order run is 6 to 20. Allow ten months to order and alter; rush orders are sometimes possible at $250 depending on the season. Payment is 50% deposit at order with the balance invoiced before the gown arrives, and payment plans are available. Alterations are quoted separately at your fitting. Made-to-order gowns cannot be returned or exchanged, with a seven-day cooling-off period on your choice. Open Tuesday to Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 9am-3pm, by appointment.

Standout Feature

The sample sale rail. Because the boutique makes its own gowns it also retires its own samples, and past-season dresses in sizes 8 to 14 sit on the site from $500 - the same design, the same atelier, at a fifth of the new price.

Appointment Policy

  • Bookings are essential; the boutique does not take walk-ins.
  • Appointments run for one hour, and a second appointment is welcome at no charge if you need time to decide.
  • Up to five guests can be accommodated.
  • You leave with sketches of your favourites and a quote.
  • Open Tuesday to Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 9am-3pm, by appointment.
  • No appointment fee is published.

Dress Designers

  • Gabrielle Spencer. Description: The boutique's own label and its only one. Gabrielle Spencer is the director and designer, with over a decade in bridal and a background in fashion design; the current range is the Gabrielle Spencer 2026 Collection and every gown is designed, crafted and showcased in the Bulimba atelier.
  • Gabrielle Spencer Couture. Description: The bespoke line. A gown fully designed, hand-fitted and hand-finished for one bride, made in the atelier from $6,000, with a very small number of commissions accepted each year.

Dress Experience

  • The Bridehouse runs on a five-step path the boutique publishes in full. You book a one-hour appointment and get a private fitting room for you and up to five guests, and the team walks you through shapes, colours and styles. If you want to change something - a different bodice on a skirt you liked, sleeves added, a fabric swapped - they sketch it and give you an official quote before you leave. A 50% deposit secures your fabric and the workroom's time. Measurements are taken five to six months out, the pattern is adapted and the gown cut in the Bulimba atelier, and you return about six weeks later for a fitting and to perfect the hem. A final fitting and collection follows another six weeks after that, deliberately months before the wedding rather than days. All fittings on a couture gown are included in the price.
