Sabrina Lauriston was born in Italy and studied painting and photography at the Institute of Art in Siena before moving to Australia in 2007. She works out of Bundaberg and still exhibits — solo and group shows at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, Childers Arts Space, the Queensland Centre for Photography and galleries in Siena and Florence. That background shows in the wedding work: a painter’s eye for where the light falls, and a lot of black and white.
Quiet and observational. In her own words she wants the *“breath-taking moments you remember but also the precious little moments you might miss”*, made *“with gentleness, empathy and the strictest of discretion”*. The wedding gallery bears it out — hidden smiles, a groom’s hand at a bride’s cheek, a page boy running a verandah — set against beaches, cane country, rainforest and one very good black Chevrolet.
Couples marrying anywhere between Bundaberg, Bargara and Hervey Bay who want an artist rather than a package. Her gallery spans a beachfront ceremony at dawn, a full Indian wedding, a homestead in the scrub and a vineyard at dusk, so the range is real. She also shoots corporate, events, real estate and portraits, which for a regional couple means one photographer who can also cover the rest of the year.
She publishes no prices, packages, hours or delivery times anywhere — the conversation starts with an enquiry rather than a rate card, and her form asks which service you are after before anything else. Her client list is not the usual one for a wedding photographer — Bundaberg Council, Creative Region, the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre and the Bundaberg Community Development Office. A photographer regional institutions hire for their own work is a reasonable bet for a wedding.
