White Chapel Kalbar

Scenic Rim / Tamborine Mountain, Queensland Capacity: Up to 90 From: From $170 p/head

About

Overview & Vibe

White Chapel Kalbar is a historic country church on the main street of Kalbar, in the Scenic Rim, converted into a dedicated wedding venue — and behind it, in the old Sunday school, sits Black Hall. Between them there is also a Barn Bar and open grounds. It is a purpose-run wedding business rather than a venue that also does weddings, and it publishes its prices in full, three years ahead.

Setting & Style

The chapel is deliberately theatrical: vintage chandeliers, white bentwood chairs and a backlit altar behind the couple. Black Hall is its opposite — restored timber floors, panelled walls, a stone fireplace with an antler chandelier, long rustic tables and oak cross-back chairs. Further down the grounds the Barn Bar has a pressed-metal bar, a ladder chandelier, festoon lighting and 44-gallon drum wood burners, and there is an arbour on the lawn for outdoor ceremonies.

Ideal For

Couples who want the whole day in one place at a known price, an hour from Brisbane. It scales well: elopements and small weekday weddings at one end, an entire-venue hire at the other. Black Hall seats 80, the Barn seats 80 or takes 90 for cocktails, and Herrmann House sleeps the bridal party 200 metres away.

The Need-to-Knows

Everything is priced, and the minimum spends are the number to check first. A Friday booking requires a minimum spend of $15,750 and a Saturday $19,500 — which, on catering from $170 a head, sets a practical floor on guest numbers well above the elopement packages. Venue hire is separate again, from $2,650 for the chapel and gardens midweek to $7,950 for the entire venue on a Saturday. Food and beverage packages all require a minimum of 40 adults except the small-wedding options, which cap at 39.

Standout Feature

The chapel itself. Purpose-converted wedding chapels are rare in Australia, and this one gives a couple a genuine church aisle and a backlit altar without a religious requirement — then puts the reception fifty metres behind it, so nobody drives anywhere between the vows and the first dance.
