Josephine Carter came to Australia from Germany in 2011 and has built her photography career in Townsville ever since — twelve years behind the lens and, by her own count, hundreds of weddings. She works across three lines: weddings, brand photography and film for businesses, and one-to-one coaching for other photographers. Her work has been featured in Frankie Magazine, Australian Vogue and PakMag.
She sums the wedding work up in three words — real moments, honest emotion, beautifully told — and the approach follows from them. She is explicit that she will not stage every second or leave couples feeling stiff in front of the camera: gentle direction where it is wanted, and stepping back when the day is unfolding on its own. She describes the wedding work itself as emotional, timeless storytelling.
Couples who want a photographer who will keep out of the way and let the day happen, and who value a clear published price over an enquiry-only quote. The four-tier structure suits both a short registry-and-lunch day and a full ten-hour celebration with video, and payment plans are offered on all of them. Equally suited to couples who want photography and video from one person rather than two suppliers.
Four wedding packages are published with figures: two hours at $1,999, five hours at $3,499, eight hours at $4,499, and a ten-hour photography-and-video package at $9,499 that adds an engagement shoot, a photobook and a USB. Video can be added to any of the first three for the same amount again. A $1,999 deposit secures the date, with flexible payment plans and monthly invoices available. Photographs usually arrive within seven days and within a month at the latest, in an online gallery.
She is also the founder of Moodkin, a collaborative planning app she built to help creatives and their clients agree on a vision before the shoot — which is a fair summary of how she approaches a wedding booking too, starting with a free discovery call before anything is signed.
