Wedding Photographers · Townsville / Magnetic Island, Queensland
This is an island photographer in the literal sense: based on Magnetic Island, shooting weddings against its beaches, bays, hoop pines and granite boulders. The wider business runs photography classes — astro, macro, landscape, sunset, underwater and wildlife — and the wedding work sits alongside them as its own priced line. The background behind it is unusual: a former PADI instructor at the island’s longest-standing dive shop, then twenty-two years of commercial photography split between Australia and Singapore, shooting for clients including MasterChef, DHL and Sofitel, before moving back to the island.
The stated preference is for elopements and small, bespoke ceremonies rather than large events, though both have been covered. Relaxed, often very fun after-ceremony shoots are named as a particular favourite. There is a deliberate habit of shooting frames with black and white in mind from the outset — the reasoning given is that the colour version may be good, but the monochrome one is often what stands out. Planning conversations before the day cover the style and mood the couple want, and couples are invited to send reference images.
Couples eloping to Magnetic Island or holding a small ceremony there, especially anyone who does not already know the island and would value being shown the good spots. The offer explicitly includes spending a couple of hours scouting locations together beforehand — easily accessible beaches and picturesque bays, with the national park behind them.
Wedding photography starts from $1,000. Before the day there is a conversation about what matters to the couple: pre-ceremony shots, keepsakes, the dog, and any traditional or unusual moments that must not be missed. Enquiries go through the contact form, and bookings can also be made through a local celebrant who works on the island. Hours, image counts and turnaround are not published; ask when enquiring.
Knowing the island is the whole proposition. Twenty-three bays and beaches, thirty-nine square kilometres of national park and twenty-five kilometres of walking track, worked by someone who has been photographing there for years and will take a couple around the locations before deciding where to shoot. For a destination elopement on a small island, that local knowledge is worth more than a bigger equipment list.
