Wedding Photographers · Townsville / Magnetic Island, Queensland
Matthew Allen has been photographing weddings around Townsville and Magnetic Island for eight years, and his own line is Be Brave, Be Bold, Be Vibrant. The work backs it up: a couple silhouetted against the Milky Way, a bride and groom alone on a jetty photographed straight down from the air with reef either side, a veil thrown wide against a sunset ridgeline, a rock arch used as a frame on a beach. He also shoots the quiet things — a ring held out on a palm, guests watching a ceremony, a signing table with the flowers still on it.
He calls himself a trusted, award-winning and relaxed photographer, and the couples who have written about him keep returning to the same idea: that he blends into the day until people forget he is working. Several describe getting a photograph of nearly every guest without ever noticing the camera. Alongside that he clearly enjoys a set piece, and the astrophotography and drone frames are deliberate showpieces rather than accidents.
Couples marrying in North Queensland who want range — from a two-hour weekday elopement on Magnetic Island through to a full day with a second shooter, an album and wall art. He publishes a genuine ladder rather than one figure, so a small midweek ceremony and a full reception-to-midnight wedding both have a named place on it.
Four collections, priced from two thousand dollars for the two-hour elopement, which runs Monday to Thursday. The next step up covers preparation, ceremony, location and group shots but stops before the reception; the top two are full-day coverage, the larger adding a second shooter, a signing book, wall art and a first-anniversary present. Every collection includes a booking magazine and a personalised timeline, and each carries a print credit that rises with the tier. He notes that items within a collection cannot be swapped, and that adding wall art at booking earns a discount on it.
He publishes a trusted-supplier list built from eight years of weddings and his past couples’ own recommendations — makeup artists, florists, celebrants and the rest — explicitly as an antidote to asking social media and being tagged by everyone’s friends. For a couple planning a North Queensland wedding it is a real shortcut, and it is unusual for a photographer to maintain one.
