The Apple Farm
About
Overview & Vibe
The Apple Farm sits at OB Flat just south of Mount Gambier, two hectares of grapevines and a thousand apple trees on the Limestone Coast. It runs as a private function venue rather than a public one — it opens to the public only occasionally — and the atmosphere is deliberately laid-back and rustic with the option to dress up.
Setting & Style
Indoor and outdoor spaces work together: tearooms with a vaulted ceiling and chandeliers for the sit-down, lawns and orchard rows for the ceremony and for mingling, an indoor fireplace and a fire pit for the cold months. Food is paddock-to-plate and seasonal — either a shared-table banquet served family style, or stand-up canapés that always finish with woodfired pizza, the kitchen's speciality.
Ideal For
Couples who want an unpretentious Limestone Coast farm wedding with a planner included, and who are willing to look at a weekday to avoid the minimum spend.
The Need-to-Knows
- The fees are published in full. A $500 booking fee (refunded after the event as a bond, or credited to the bar bill), a $1,000 reception hire fee and a $750 ceremony fee.
- May to September carries no ceremony fee at all, and there is no minimum spend Monday to Friday.
- Minimum spend applies on Saturdays and Sundays in peak season (October–April): $3,000 on food. The venue's own worked example is that 50 guests means a $60 per head menu.
- No bookings in December other than by special arrangement, and a 20% surcharge on hire fees for public holiday weekends.
- The hire fee covers a great deal: up to six planning meetings, a dedicated wedding planner, setup the day before and on the day, plates, cutlery, glasses, furniture, bathroom supplies, power, firewood, cleanup and staff.
- No BYO alcohol — licensing. Bar tab arrangements are flexible: full tab, no tab, subsidised split, or a mix.
- Last drinks 11.45pm, midnight curfew, live music finishing at 11.30pm as a courtesy to neighbours. Biodegradable confetti, rose petals and bubbles are encouraged.
- Cakeage is a $50 flat rate; a private marquee attracts a $250 setup coordination fee.
Standout Feature
A thousand apple trees and two hectares of vines for the photographs, and a wedding planner built into the hire fee.

Price Notes
- Source: the venue's own 'Weddings 2026-2027' pack, PDF created 19 January 2026 - six months old at the time of listing and covering the current and next season. NOTE the PDF is letter-spaced (every glyph separated), so a naive figure scan returns junk; the text was read after normalising the spacing.
- PUBLISHED FEES: $500 booking fee, payable after inspection, non-refundable to hold the date but credited back after the event provided there are no excessive messes or breakages, or usable against the final drinks bill. $1,000 reception hire fee, payable 6 months prior. $750 ceremony fee, payable 3 months prior.
- SEASONAL RELIEF, which is the biggest lever here: 'Weddings booked for the low months of May-September incur no ceremony fee.' And there is no minimum spend Monday to Friday at any time of year.
- MINIMUM SPEND: 'We have a minimum spend for Saturday & Sunday's during peak wedding season {October-April}. The minimum spend is $3000 on food, which means for example 50 guests will have a $60ph menu. If you plan on hosting a smaller more intimate event you can choose to have your wedding on Monday - Friday instead where there are no minimum spends.' NOTE the $60 figure is the venue's own worked example of dividing the minimum by 50 guests, not a published menu rate, so no per-head price has been recorded.
- WHAT THE $1,000 RECEPTION FEE INCLUDES: up to 6 planning meetings, assistance with venue setup the day prior and on the day, Apple Farm plates, cutlery and glasses, bathroom supplies, power, furniture, firewood, cleanup and necessary staff. All costs include a wedding planner in the lead up and on the day. The tearooms are available the day before for decoration setup.
- BAR: fully licensed, and BYO is not permitted due to licensing restrictions. Four tab structures are offered - full tab, no tab, subsidised (the venue gives the example of splitting a $9.50 beer or wine so the couple pays $4.50), or a mix. Cocktails, mocktails and locally sourced wines are available. Guests are encouraged to bring their own bottled water.
- OTHER CHARGES AND RULES: no bookings in December unless by special circumstances; 20% surcharge on hire fees for public holiday weekends, Friday to Sunday; cakeage $50 flat rate; $250 time management fee for setting up private marquees on top of marquee hire; last drinks 11.45pm with a midnight curfew; live music finishes by 11.30pm as a courtesy to neighbours; biodegradable paper confetti, rose petals and bubbles are encouraged.
- CANCELLATION: over 6 months prior, booking fee forfeited. Within 6 months, booking fee and reception fee forfeited. Within 3 months, booking fee and reception fee forfeited but the ceremony fee is refunded within 60 days. 50% of hire fees already paid are refunded on cancellation. Bar and catering funds are refunded if cancelling more than 2 weeks out, otherwise a 50% fee applies. POSTPONEMENT: free of charge more than 6 months prior; a $100 admin fee within 6 months.
