About

Overview & Vibe

The Barn Palais has been hosting weddings since the 1940s, seven kilometres from Mount Gambier on Glenelg River Road. Five acres of manicured gardens, a historic Palais with six-metre ceilings, limestone buildings, a steakhouse and accommodation across the grounds — the estate calls itself the complete wedding destination and has the pieces to back it.

Setting & Style

Two reception rooms. The Barn Palais is the big one — a Mount Gambier icon with lofty proportions, movable internal walls that size the room to the wedding, and a large jarrah dance floor and stage. The Oak Tree Room is modern and intimate with panoramic garden views, and the adjacent Piano Bar handles pre-dinner drinks. Ceremonies go outside: rose gardens, clipped hedges, limestone pillars and a lawn under a spreading oak.

Ideal For

Larger Limestone Coast weddings — the Palais takes 80 to 300 — and smaller ones in the Oak Tree Room, with everyone able to stay on site.

The Need-to-Knows

  • Menus are $68 to $85 per guest. Set menu $68; alternating courses $72 or $79; more choice $79, $81 or $85. Canapés are $17.50 to $27.50 per person for three to five, and beverage packages run $40 to $85 per person for three to five hours.
  • Room hire is on top and modest: $440 for the Barn Palais, $220 for the Oak Tree Room. A $1,000 deposit confirms the booking and is refunded 72 hours after the function — but is non-refundable on cancellation.
  • The Palais has a minimum of 80 guests for a wedding. Below that, the Oak Tree Room takes up to 60.
  • An $8.80 per person public holiday surcharge applies, and card surcharges are 1.5% on Amex and Diners, 1% on Visa and Mastercard.
  • The bar closes at midnight and guests start leaving. Wedding cakes arrive between 2 and 5pm on the day; the band or DJ sets up 2–5pm on the day or noon–6pm the day before, and there is otherwise no access to the Barn on the wedding day unless arranged.
  • No confetti or rice — dry rose petals are permitted. And if the wedding party wants to get ready in the rooms, they must book two nights, because check-in is 2pm.
