THE COMMODORE is Mount Gambier’s long-standing hotel and function house, built on the city’s old saleyards in 1963 and family-run since Leanne and Evan Kosch took it over in January 1989 — more than 37 years of hospitality behind the name. It sits at 1 Jubilee Highway East, a few minutes’ walk from the main street, and the tone it sets is elevated country hospitality: polished rather than rustic, and unusually complete for a regional city, with a restaurant, a bar, 53 suites and a purpose-built function wing all on one site.
Three indoor function spaces, each published with its dimensions and its layout capacities. The Larnie Room (4.4 m × 6.4 m) is a private room for up to 25. The Main Function Room (11 m × 13 m) is the dedicated wedding space — 100 at banquet rounds, 60 cabaret, 140 for cocktails. For a larger guest list the Main Function Room opens through into the restaurant to form the Full Room (11 m × 24 m), 200 banquet and 220 cocktail, which carries exclusive private access to the venue. The venue’s own wedding photography shows the room dressed with festoon lighting.
Couples who want the whole wedding under one roof in a regional city — reception, dinner, bar and beds for the guest list in the same building. It suits banquet-style sit-down receptions from around 60 to 200 and cocktail receptions to 220. It is a reception venue rather than a ceremony destination: every published space is an interior function room, so an outdoor ceremony would be held elsewhere and the party brought back here.
No wedding pricing is published anywhere on the site. Menus and beverage packages are referred to but not published; quoting runs through the Events Manager via the functions enquiry form. Catering is in-house, and the restaurant’s à la carte menu codes seven dietary positions — gluten free, gluten free modified, vegetarian, vegan, vegan modified, dairy free and dairy free modified. Accommodation is 53 suites across ten room types, plus three self-contained three- and four-bedroom houses adjoining the property at 1, 5 and 9 Fairlie Street, which suit a bridal party. Room service, free Wi-Fi and parking are standard. One structural point: the Full Room configuration absorbs the restaurant, so it is only available when the venue is closed to the public.
The published capacity matrix. Most regional hotels say they cater for all sizes; THE COMMODORE prints room dimensions and six layout capacities for each of its three configurations. A couple can work out before enquiring whether 140 fits, whether cabaret at 60 leaves room to dance, and exactly what size of guest list triggers the jump to exclusive use of the whole venue.
