Brittney Paige Couture is a made-to-measure bridal studio on Hobart's Eastern Shore. Its brief is a rebuke to the rack: “to work with clients to achieve something you can't just pick up off a rack in a store, to create something one of a kind.”

Dress Styles & Designers

No labels stocked — every gown is Brittney's own, cut to the bride. Her published client work runs from a stretch-satin gown with a pearl and crystal embroidered back to a pale pink tea-length dress with hand-sewn Swarovski crystals, and a house piece in velvet flocked Australian leather with satin-backed crepe. She also makes and sells her own veils, in nine published lengths from a 33cm mini to a 400cm royal.

Ideal For

The bride who has looked and not found it. It is also, unusually, the right studio for an heirloom: one published commission took a grandmother's gown that had already been worn by the bride's mother, and — because the bride was much taller — remade it entirely, using the original lace for a new bodice over a Duchess satin skirt, with enough fabric left to make her daughter a matching flower girl dress. Four generations, one gown.

The Need-to-Knows

Book six months ahead for custom work; rush orders are possible for a fee if the studio's workload allows. Alterations need a minimum of six weeks before the event, and she takes them on any gown — bridal, bridesmaid, mother of the bride or groom, debutante — up to a full dress re-make. Quotes are obligation-free with no upfront fee for a first consultation, and enquiries are answered within 12 hours. By appointment only, with online booking for Tasmanian clients.

Standout Feature

The training behind it. Top marks in Fashion Design and Technology at Gordon TAFE in 2015, then internships with Alex Perry and Linda Britten. In 2016 the Paris American Academy in Paris, learning traditional couture technique and the Madame Grès draping method; then six months with Phillipa Lepley in Chelsea, London. Back in Melbourne she worked as a cutter for a renowned bridal designer and rose to assistant production manager, and in 2019 returned to Paris specifically to study corsetry and bustiers. Very little of that CV exists elsewhere in this directory — and gowns start at $2,500.

Appointment Policy

The studio is open by appointment only, but describes itself as very accommodating in working around clients' work hours and after hours.
Tasmanian clients can book fittings and consultations online, choosing appointment type, date and time.
All enquiries are responded to within 12 hours.
First consultations and bookings carry no upfront fee; the cost is combined with the total, and quotes are obligation-free.
Custom work should be booked six months in advance to avoid disappointment, because a quality custom garment can take months from consultation through design, fabric sourcing, pattern making, construction and fittings.
Custom clients attend three fittings during production, plus a final fitting at pick-up for any last-minute adjustments.
Alterations must be booked a minimum of six weeks before the event date; rush alterations incur a fee.
Rush custom orders can be fulfilled for a fee provided the studio's workload allows.
Before production begins the client receives fabric swatches, a sketch of the final design and an estimated quote.

Dress Experience

Brittney Paige Couture is a made-to-measure bridal studio on the Eastern Shore of Hobart, Tasmania, run by designer Brittney Paige. Born and raised in Warrnambool, she completed Fashion Design and Technology at Gordon TAFE with top marks in 2015, interning during her diploma with Australian designers Alex Perry and Linda Britten. In 2016 she studied at the Paris American Academy in Paris, where she was taught traditional couture techniques and the Madame Gres draping technique, then moved to England for a six-month internship with Phillipa Lepley in Chelsea, London. The studio makes custom bridal gowns and reception mini dresses, bridesmaid, graduation and ball gowns, and sells its own range of veils and hair pieces. Leanna Norvell custom gown. Price: $2,500+. Description: A luscious stretch satin gown with a high split, pearl and crystal embroidered feature back and front, detachable sleeves and a full corset. Made after the bride tried many dresses and decided the only way to get hers was to have it made. 03.08.24.
Avalon Davison custom gown. Price: $2,500+. Description: A deluxe satin gown with boat neck, long sleeves, lace hem detail, structured shoulders and a low back, finished with a custom full-circle veil. Made after the bride searched high and low in stores without luck. 07.08.24.
Holly Meade heirloom remake. Price: quoted per garment. Description: Four generations, one gown. The bride wanted to wear her grandmother's wedding dress as her mother had; being considerably taller, the job went from alterations to a full remake, using the original lace for a new modern bodice with a Duchess satin skirt.
