Raffaele Ciuca has been dressing Melbourne brides since 1956 and is now in its fourth generation. The story starts in L'Aquila, Italy, where a master tailor delivered fine suits across Abruzzo by bicycle before leaving for Melbourne in 1954; by 1956 he and his wife Tina had a small atelier here, and gowns gradually became the whole business. Standout Feature
Seventy years and four generations, with the workroom still in the business. This is the oldest bridal house in the database by decades, and unusually it publishes its own archive - photographs of the 1950s and 60s tailoring floor, the fabric room, the family at work. Most boutiques sell you a gown; this one can show you the sewing machines its founder bought.
