La Belle Bridal Boutique
About
Overview & Vibe
La Belle Bridal Boutique has been dressing Canberra brides for 50 years, and is now run by owner and couture fit specialist Ashleigh Switalski from Barker Street in Griffith. Brides call her a “wedding dress guardian angel” — which is earned by the kind of work she takes on: “redesigning a dress bought online days before a wedding, tailoring a gown to flatter a changing body…”
Dress Styles & Designers
Four routes to a gown under one roof: made-to-measure bespoke, ready-made from Australian and international designers, hire, and a curated collection of recycled pre-loved gowns, each restored and quality-checked before it goes on the rack. Formal and evening gowns and tailored outfits sit alongside the bridal.
Ideal For
Brides other boutiques have not served well. Two specialisms are stated outright and in detail. Plus-size brides: Ashleigh writes for the bride who has “had past experiences where boutiques didn't cater to your size or didn't make you feel seen”, and sets out to change that. Also the sustainability-minded bride, and anyone on a budget the recycled rail can meet.
The Need-to-Knows
Closed Monday and Tuesday; Wednesday to Friday 9am–4pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am–3pm. Walk-ins are accommodated when the boutique is free, but bookings are preferred and may be required if Ashleigh is with another bride. Photos are asked not to be taken during the initial consultation. No gown prices are published. Alterations are done in house on gowns bought anywhere — including embellishments, and details like your names and wedding date embroidered inside the dress.
Standout Feature
She will come to your house. La Belle runs mobile in-home bridal consultations across the Canberra region at published prices: a $55 phone or WhatsApp pre-consultation of up to 30 minutes, then a $350 one-hour in-home appointment where Ashleigh arrives with four to five curated sample gowns, fabric swatches, veils and accessories, and gives a professional body-shape and silhouette assessment — friends and family welcome. Nothing else in this directory brings the fitting room to the bride. It is backed by a six-year award record including #1 Winner for Bridal Gown Designer in 2022 and 2023 and #1 Winner for Bridal Gown Alterations in 2024.

Dress Designers
- La Belle Bridal Boutique. Description: The boutique's own made-to-measure label, designed and fitted in house by owner and couture fit specialist Ashleigh Switalski. Bespoke gowns are developed from consultation through a cloth prototype to final fitting.
- Unnamed Australian and international designers. Description: The boutique states that its ready-made range features designs from respected Australian and international designers, but does not name any of them on its own site, so no stockist claim is recorded here.
Dress Experience
- La Belle Bridal Boutique is a bridal and formal boutique at 2-12 Barker Street, Griffith, in Canberra, serving the ACT and southern New South Wales and celebrating 50 years in Canberra. It is owned by Ashleigh Switalski, who works as its lead bridal wear consultant and couture fit specialist and is described by brides as a wedding dress guardian angel. The boutique offers four routes to a gown: made-to-measure bespoke design, ready-made gowns from Australian and international designers for purchase or hire, and a curated collection of recycled pre-loved wedding dresses that are restored and quality-checked in house. It also makes and alters formal dresses and tailored outfits. Its bespoke process runs from an initial consultation through expert advice on silhouette, to a prototype made from cloth rather than paper to confirm fit and style, to final fittings. The boutique states two specialisms explicitly: plus-size brides, with guidance on supportive structure, necklines, waistlines and fabrics, and LGBTQIA+ couples, for whom it makes tailored suits, reimagined gowns and gender-affirming silhouettes. In-house seamstresses alter and embellish bridal and formal gowns whether bought in store or elsewhere, including embroidering the couple's names and wedding date inside the dress. The boutique also runs mobile in-home bridal consultations across the Canberra region. It is open Wednesday to Friday 9am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 3pm, and is closed Monday and Tuesday; walk-ins are accommodated when the boutique is free but bookings are preferred, and brides are asked not to take photographs during an initial consultation.
