Capricorn Caves
About
Overview & Vibe
Capricorn Caves is a limestone cave system on Olsens Caves Road at The Caves, fifteen minutes north of Rockhampton, and couples get married underground in it. The Cathedral Cave is the ceremony space — a natural chamber fitted with timber pews and a boardwalk aisle, renowned for acoustics good enough that the venue asks you to bring your music on a USB stick two weeks ahead so it can be tuned to the room.
Setting & Style
The cave does the work. Rock walls lit warm from below, candles down the entrance and through the chamber on the Candlelit package, a red carpet aisle between the pews. Above ground the property is rainforest and limestone outcrop with a suspension bridge across a chasm, which is where most of the photographs happen. Larger packages include access to all the caves for photography, not just the one you married in.
Ideal For
Couples who want a ceremony that looks like nowhere else in Australia, at a scale from an elopement for two to eighty guests in pews.
The Need-to-Knows
- Four packages by size: Elopement seats 10, Intimate 20, Candlelit and Your Way both 80, all in the Cathedral Cave's timber pews.
- Exclusive use of the Cathedral Cave is one hour for ceremony and photography — two hours on the Your Way package, which covers set up and pack down as well.
- All but the Elopement package include a one-hour rehearsal in the cave, bookable between 3pm and 5pm.
- Music must be supplied as MP3 or WMV on a USB drive at least two weeks in advance. The venue recommends 5–6 songs pre-ceremony, one for the entry, 2–3 for the signing and 5–6 for leaving.
- The Candlelit package adds candles throughout the entrance and Cathedral Cave, and access to all caves for photographs.
- This is a ceremony venue rather than a reception one — the packages cover the ceremony, the coordinator and the cave, and no catering or reception space is described.
- No current pricing is published. See the note in the pricing field.
Standout Feature
A limestone cathedral underground, with pews, a red carpet and acoustics the venue tunes your playlist to.

Price Notes
- No current pricing is published. The only pricing document is a wedding packages brochure titled for the 2024-25 season, dated /ModDate 2024-11-19 with an HTTP Last-Modified of 2024-11-18. That season has ended, so its rates are not reproduced here - the brochure's capacities, package structure and inclusions are used, because structural facts do not expire, but its prices are treated as lapsed. The weddings page directs couples to download the brochure or email for current rates.
- The package structure is fully described even without prices. Elopement: one personalised consultation with the dedicated wedding coordinator, seating for up to 10 guests in elegant pews, a designated registry signing table with two chairs, chosen music played via surround sound in the cave, and one hour of exclusive use of Cathedral Cave for ceremony and photography. Intimate: two consultations, a one-hour rehearsal in the cave between 3pm and 5pm, red carpet, registry signing table and chairs, seating for up to 20, surround sound, and one hour of exclusive Cathedral Cave use. Candlelit: two consultations, a rehearsal, red carpet, registry table and chairs plus candles throughout the entrance and Cathedral Cave, seating for up to 80, surround sound, access to all caves for photo opportunities, and one hour of exclusive Cathedral Cave use. Your Way: two consultations, two hours of exclusive cave use covering set up, ceremony, pack down and photography, a rehearsal, red carpet, registry table and chairs, seating for up to 80, and surround sound.
- Music is the couple's responsibility and has a firm deadline. The venue asks for the chosen music in MP3 or WMV format on a USB drive at least two weeks in advance so the coordinator can integrate it into the cave's sound system. It recommends a minimum of 5-6 songs pre-ceremony, a maximum of one for the entry, a maximum of 2-3 for signing the register, and a minimum of 5-6 for leaving the Cathedral.
- No catering, beverage or reception offering is described anywhere in the brochure or on the weddings page - the packages cover the ceremony, the coordinator, the cave and photography access. Treat this as a ceremony venue unless the venue publishes otherwise.
