About

Overview & Vibe

Daniel Sallai is a landscape and wedding photographer based at Clunes, north of Ballarat. He was building a wedding practice in 2016, left it to join the Army for several years, and is deliberately returning to it now — a break he says made him a better photographer. Weddings sit alongside a substantial landscape and heritage practice rather than instead of one.

Style & Approach

He describes his shooting as mostly candid, catching genuine reactions as they happen — not only the couple’s but the guests’ and family’s too. For group portraits he switches deliberately to something more traditional and structured, on the view that those are among the most important pictures anyone keeps. Landscape is his first love, so he will look for the best scenery near the venue to work into the couple’s portraits.

Ideal For

Couples in the Ballarat and Clunes district who want a relaxed day covered without fuss, and who like the idea of their portraits set against real countryside. Shorter bookings are genuinely catered for — the smallest collection covers the ceremony and portraits only — so a small or midweek wedding is not an awkward fit.

The Need-to-Knows

Three collections run from $1,400 for up to two and a half hours to $2,500 for up to nine, and each states a minimum image count: 200, 400 and 500 or more. Every collection includes a private online gallery, edits at both print and web resolution, and a physical USB. The two larger ones send a handful of images within 48 hours. Travel anywhere in Australia or overseas is offered at the cost of travel expenses.

Standout Feature

He is a CASA certified remote pilot, so drone photography can form part of the day when time, place and weather allow — an unusual inclusion at this end of the market. Current and former Defence members and First Responders are offered ten per cent off.
