Mel Panteli photographs weddings across the Macedon Ranges and Daylesford, and her pictures have the warmth of late light and the calm of somebody who has done this a very long time. She describes her own pictures as timeless, romantic, classic and elegant, and she works by watching rather than directing — her words are that you will find yourself relaxing into the shots without realising, and that some of your favourite frames will be ones you never noticed being taken. Expect a lot of attention to light: she calls herself a light chaser and it shows in the backlit veil and last-hour portraits that run through her work.

Wedding packages start at $2,850 with four, eight or twelve hours of coverage, and elopements start at $1,800 plus GST on weekdays and Sundays only. Fine art albums start at $1,700, and some packages include a second photographer. Every package includes a planning meeting over coffee or by video call, where the two of you build a run sheet for the day. A booking fee of a quarter of the package secures the date. Ask how long the images take to arrive, because no timeframe is published.
The light. Her strongest frames are the ones shot straight into a low sun with a veil catching it — a hard thing to do well, and the reason her work reads as cinematic rather than merely pretty.
