Hotel Kurrajong stands on National Circuit in Barton, a heritage hotel from the earliest days of the capital — Ben Chifley lived here as Prime Minister, and the building still carries its Art Deco bones.
The interiors do most of the work: ten-foot ceilings, Art Deco-inspired detailing and chandelier lighting through the function rooms, with a lobby and Chifley’s Bar & Grill downstairs. Ceremonies happen in the courtyard around a custom water feature, and the terrace gardens serve as the photography backdrop. Receptions run either as a cocktail affair under festoon lights in that same courtyard or as a seated dinner indoors — a sit-down for a hundred and fifty, or a cocktail party up to three hundred. The refurbished hotel carries a hundred and forty-seven guest rooms, twenty-six of them in the heritage wing, so the wedding party can stay the night before to get ready and walk back to the Wedding Suite at the end of the evening.
Couples wanting genuine Canberra heritage and Art Deco elegance with the whole party accommodated on site.
