Wedding Photographers · Mudgee, New South Wales
Tim White photographs weddings from a base at Mudgee, in the wine country of central-western New South Wales, and his pictures are of that landscape as much as of the day. A ceremony is set out with wine barrels in an open paddock under a flat-topped hill. Two grooms walk a row of vines in summer light. A couple stands in dry grass with the ranges behind them. He describes photographing weddings as one of the most fun things to do, and the work has the warmth of someone who means it.
The pictures move between two registers. In colour they are bright and open: confetti in the air, a couple laughing under a shower of petals, bouquets of natives and garden roses held close, bridesmaids caught mid-laugh in the afternoon. In black and white they turn quieter and more graphic — a bride walking out through a tunnel of sparklers into the dark, a groom alone under a chandelier in a timber-post pavilion looking out at open country. The morning preparations, the ceremony, the details a couple chose and portraits of the two of them are all covered.
Couples marrying in the Mudgee district who would rather have someone who lives there than a photographer brought in for the day, and who want one pair of hands equally at ease with a paddock ceremony at midday and a dark dance floor at midnight. Same-sex weddings sit through his galleries photographed with exactly the same warmth as every other couple in them, and the range runs from a full bridal party to a two-person ceremony under a tree.
Tim works each wedding out in conversation: the first step is a phone call or a message to talk the day through, and what he will cover is settled from there. Alongside weddings he shoots commercial and social media content, portraits and headshots for business or personal use, and family sessions, working on location or in the studio. Photographic prints are sold in a range of sizes.
The pictures he makes after dark. A sparkler exit photographed from inside the tunnel of guests, every face lit from below and the bride laughing as she comes through; a reception under strung festoon bulbs held as a single warm point of light against a black country sky. They are the frames a Mudgee wedding is remembered by.
