Kate Freestone photographs weddings around Mudgee and the Central West, and by her own count is in her sixteenth year of it. The galleries are the district itself: paddocks and dry hills, vineyards, a country church with stained glass, verandahs and hedged gardens, a bride on the back of a dirt bike, a couple in the rain under white umbrellas. Her background is press, not portraiture. She studied a Bachelor of Visual Communication at Western Sydney University, was the official photographer for two universities, and was the features photographer for the NT News — a job that had her photographing a former Prime Minister and, on another day, a sedated crocodile hanging out of a car window.
