• Elizabeth opened Belles and Beaux in 1989 with business partner Angela Nicholson, having already run Libby's Boutique on Hunter Street in the early 1970s, and bought Angela out in 2006 to become sole owner.
• That same year she was diagnosed with leukaemia and went on a clinical trial. She spent two years away from the shop while manageress Michelle O'Connor and the staff kept it running, and has been in remission since.
• She still oversees the store, and puts her health down to the pleasure of watching brides find their gown.
• Gowns are made to size rather than to measure, so most brides will need a fitter to finish the shaping. The store keeps a list of people it trusts for that work.
• Oxford Street is the store's own collection, chosen in-house with size range, styling and affordable pricing as the priorities, and each gown's sample size is published.
