Nova Chic Boutique is on Level 1 at 490 Hunter Street, and it says so plainly: “above Newcastle Bridal House”. The two are sister boutiques in one building — gowns downstairs, everything else upstairs — and each sends brides to the other. Nova Chic’s own centre of gravity is formal, bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride, with a Destination Bridal line alongside.
It is the Hunter region’s exclusive stockist of Nicoletta and Tania Olsen — its own words: gowns “you won’t find anywhere else in Newcastle and the Hunter”. The range runs to elegant black-tie evening gowns, bridesmaid dresses, school formal gowns and mother-of-the-bride styles, with the destination bridal collection for brides marrying away from home.
The bride dressing a party rather than only herself, and the bride whose wedding is somewhere else. Over 500 gowns in store, sizes 4 to 28 — a genuinely wide rail — and a boutique that can put the bridesmaids, the mothers and a destination gown in one appointment. It also serves the school formal market, which most bridal boutiques do not touch.
The appointment rules are specific and worth reading. Bridesmaid appointments run an hour; formal and mother-of-the-bride 30 minutes. Formal customers must bring a parent or guardian. Bridesmaid appointments are the bridesmaids and the bride only — no additional guests, because the boutique is small. Photographs are not allowed until you have said yes to the dress, for copyright reasons. Ordering takes 16–20 weeks, with rush at 10–12 and super rush as little as 2–3 depending on the designer. Closed Tuesdays and Sundays.
Super rush in two to three weeks. Most boutiques quote four to ten months and treat a rush order as an exception with a fee. Nova Chic publishes three tiers as a matter of course — 16–20 weeks standard, 10–12 rush, 2–3 super rush on some designers — plus a floor stock you can buy and carry out. For a bridesmaid who has just been asked, or a formal three weeks away, that is the difference between a gown and no gown.
