Scott Surplice photographs weddings the way they actually unfold, from a studio at Caringbah in the Sutherland Shire and across the whole of Sydney. Sixteen years and more than 750 weddings sit behind the work, and the promise attached to it is a quiet one: no stiff poses, no interruptions and no awkward direction, just the day happening with someone in the background making sure none of it gets missed.
The style is natural, documentary and relaxed, shot on digital with film available alongside it. Heavy posing is deliberately absent, which is what lets couples who expect to feel awkward settle into the day instead. As he puts it, the best wedding photos are made the moment you forget there is a camera there, earned through humour and patience rather than by hiding.
Couples who want a thoughtful celebration rather than a performance, and who would rather spend the day with their guests than disappear for an hour of portraits. Sydney weddings across the harbour, the eastern beaches, the inner west and the Royal National Park are all represented, alongside elopements, Snowy Mountains weddings and celebrations further afield.
Collections for six hours, run for nine and for a twelve-hour day, all in Australian dollars and inclusive of GST for 2026 and 2027. A deposit secures the date and the balance falls due a fortnight out. A curated preview arrives within five days and the full collection in about four weeks. Travel anywhere in New South Wales is included on the nine-hour collection.
Weddings photographed here have appeared in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, The Lane, Hello May and Together Journal, but the reason given for the way the work is done is far more personal. At his own wedding the photographer ran out of batteries and moments were lost for good, and everything about the care taken since traces back to that.
