Tamar Valley Resort Grindelwald
About
Overview & Vibe
Over 150 acres of lawns, lakes and Swiss-style architecture at Grindelwald, fifteen minutes north of Launceston. The resort has 97 rooms across hotel suites, villas and self-catering chalets, a bistro, a golf course, a health club and a village of shops — so the whole wedding party can arrive and stay put.
Setting & Style
Five distinct ceremony sites, which is more than any other venue in this region publishes. The Lakeside Chapel is a non-denominational chapel over thirty years old, built by master craftsmen on the bank of Lake Louise, with stained glass and turn-of-the-century pews. The Lakeside Gazebo and the Secret Garden — a lawn ringed by old pines with a permanent arch — both have uncapped guest numbers. The Fountain & Footbridge at the front of the Grand Hotel makes an entrance; the manicured resort gardens fill in the rest.
Ideal For
Couples with guests flying in, who want ceremony, reception, bar, breakfast and beds inside one gate — and who want to choose the ceremony spot rather than be given one.
The Need-to-Knows
- Ceremony hire fees are published: Fountain & Footbridge $150, Lakeside Gazebo and Secret Garden $225 each, Lakeside Chapel $275 — all for three hours, and all quoted as part of a combined ceremony-and-reception package. The Enzian reception room carries a further $330 fee.
- Reception per-head pricing is not on the site. It lives in a ‘Menu Inspirations Booklet’ sent on request — ask Lucy, the wedding specialist, on 03 6330 0494.
- Read the room capacities carefully — several are temporarily reduced. The brochure gives each room's normal maximum and then a lower “temporary capacity” attributed to government regulations: Tamarhorn 150 cocktail normally, 84 at present; Geneva 130 cocktail, 76 at present; Enzian 90 cocktail, 68 at present. Confirm which applies to your date.
- Every reception room has a minimum — 70 guests for the Tamarhorn, 50 for the Geneva, 40 for the Enzian — and package inclusions are quoted per person from 40 guests, with smaller weddings priced on enquiry.
- Receptions run six hours and must finish by midnight.
- The Geneva cannot take a band with drums — DJ, jukebox, soloist or duo only. The Enzian has no noise restrictions and a permanent dance floor.
- There is a wedding gift, and it is specified. Couples booking a reception with over 40 seated or 60 cocktail guests receive a $300 package — wedding night in the Bridal Spa Suite with buffet breakfast, and use of the gym, sauna, heated pool and spa — plus a $420 anniversary package for the following year.
Standout Feature
A thirty-year-old lakeside chapel with stained glass and antique pews, on a 150-acre resort where all 97 rooms are yours to fill.

Price Notes
- CEREMONY HIRE FEES ARE PUBLISHED PER SITE, AND ALL ARE CONDITIONAL ON A COMBINED PACKAGE. From the 27-page 'Ceremony & Reception Booklet' (PDF /CreationDate 2 October 2025, /ModDate and HTTP Last-Modified 4 October 2025 - ten months old at harvest and comfortably in window): 'Fountain & Footbridge $150*'; 'Lakeside Gazebo $225*... The hire fee for the Lakeside Gazebo allows for 3 hours at this venue'; 'Secret Garden $225*... The hire fee for the Secret Garden allows for 3 hours at this venue'; 'Lakeside Chapel $275*'. Each carries the footnote '*prices are for combined Ceremony & Reception Packages'. A separate room fee applies to one reception space: 'There is a $330 fee to use the Enzian.'
- RECEPTION PER-HEAD PRICING IS DELIBERATELY OFF-SITE, AND THE VENUE SAYS WHERE IT IS: 'Here at the Tamar Valley Resort we cater for all dining styles... Our Menu Inspiration Booklet can be provided upon request which provides suggested menus and prices for reception packages. Some of our Reception Packages include: Pre-Reception canapes, Pre-Reception platters, Cocktail Style Dining, 3 & 4 Course Meals, Buffet, Gourmet BBQ. To get a copy of our Menu Inspirations Booklet which includes pricing contact Lucy, our Wedding Specialist on 03 6330 0494.' price_per_head is NULL because no per-head figure is published, not because none exists.
- SEVERAL ROOM CAPACITIES ARE TEMPORARILY REDUCED AND THE BROCHURE SAYS SO EXPLICITLY - Tamarhorn 150 cocktail normally but 'a temporary capacity of 84 people', Geneva 130 but 76, Enzian 90 but 68, each 'due to government regulations (see our wedding planner for more information)'. The website publishes the reduced figures on its Our Spaces page and a normal figure on the weddings page, which reads as a contradiction until the brochure is read. See venue_capacity.
- EVERY RECEPTION ROOM HAS A MINIMUM GUEST NUMBER: 'Minimum guest number for the Geneva is 50'; 'Minimum guest numbers for the Enzian is 40'; the Tamarhorn 'must have a minimum of 70 guests to book'. And the package itself has a floor: 'As part of your special day the following items are included in the package price per person (40 guests minimum). Package inclusions for weddings with under 40 guests are available upon enquiry.'
- WHAT THE PER-PERSON PACKAGE PRICE INCLUDES, VERBATIM: 'Quality linen table cloths, linen napkins or coloured serviettes of your choice, all cutlery, crockery and glassware; Bridal table, gift table and cake table skirting; Free parking for all guests; Help and advice from our wedding specialists; Room upgrades for the parents of the bride and groom subject to availability.'
- TWO GIFTS ARE PUBLISHED WITH STATED VALUES AND A QUALIFYING THRESHOLD. 'Wedding Gift Valued at $300: Wedding night accommodation in Bridal Spa Suite including full hot and cold buffet breakfast; Use of the resort's gymnasium, sauna, heated swimming pool, and spa for the duration of your stay with us.' 'Anniversary Gift Valued at $420: 1 night accommodation in a Hotel Spa Suite or Waterfront King Spa Villa; Evening dinner at the Alpenrose Bistro to the price of $70; Full buffet breakfast with hot and cold choices; Use of gym, sauna, spa and heated pool.' The qualification: 'These gifts are for all couples who book a reception at the Tamar Valley Resort with over 40 guests for a sit down dinner or 60 guests cocktail style. Gifts are not transferable to another person or for cash and is subject to availability.'
- TIMING AND ENTERTAINMENT CONSTRAINTS, PUBLISHED PER ROOM: 'Wedding receptions run for a duration of 6 hours, all receptions must conclude by 12.00 midnight' - stated for both the Geneva and the Enzian. On music: the Geneva 'is suitable for a DJ, Jukebox, Soloist or Duo. The Geneva cannot cater for a band with drums'; the Enzian 'is suitable for a DJ, Jukebox, Soloist, Duet or band. There are no noise restrictions in the Enzian.' Ceremony hire fees each 'allow for 3 hours at this venue'.
- NO DIETARY POSITION IS PUBLISHED. The brochure says only 'Here at the Tamar Valley Resort we cater for all dining styles' and 'Our experienced chefs and service professionals are able to cater for everything from individual table service to grand buffets' - a general capability statement rather than a list of supported diets, so dietary_options_supported is NULL under the blanket-promise rule.
- THE BOOKLET IS LETTER-SPACED IN ITS SOURCE and extracts as 'C o n g r a t u l a t i o n s', which defeats a naive keyword grep. Collapsing single spaces between non-space characters recovers readable text. Worth knowing for other InDesign-style exports.
