Twenty acres of natural bush on the banks of Lake Victoria, fifteen minutes from Paynesville and twenty from Bairnsdale, with nineteen self-contained lodges and a function centre. The venue's own pitch is a whole weekend rather than a day: “Our aim is to provide a 'wedding Weekend' where guests can help you celebrate all weekend.” There is a resident mob of kangaroos that will eat out of your hand.
Setting & Style
Ceremonies go on the lake front — the retreat's own photographs show white chairs and an arbour set on the grass with the water behind. The Lake Victoria Room is the reception space, with a commercial kitchen, a bar, a welcome area, a dining room and an outside deck, and the venue's photographs show it draped and strung with fairy lights. Between the two sit a private jetty, an indoor heated pool under a pitched glass roof, an outdoor heated spa, a tennis court, kayaks, bicycles and nature trails.

Couples who want the whole party to stay put for a weekend by the water, and who are happy to build the day themselves — this is a bare-hire venue with the option of in-house catering.
The Need-to-Knows
- It is a bare-hire package, and the hire window is generous: “Room hire from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon gives you time decorate the room to your requirements with ample time to pack up the next day.” Nothing is priced on the site.
- Catering can be theirs or yours. The retreat can cater the whole event from its commercial kitchen, or you bring your own caterer into a kitchen that is “ready to use and fully functional”.
- Check the capacity before you plan. The weddings page says the function centre seats up to 90 (and a maximum of 50 for conferences); the Lake Victoria Room's own page says 60. Confirm which applies to your format.
- Nineteen lodges, one to four bedrooms, all self-contained with kitchens, some with lake views and some looking into the bush. The entire retreat can be booked for sole use.
- Two lodges are genuinely wheelchair accessible. Beluga and Despatch sleep four, with an open-plan accessible shower, a low vanity, and a separate carer's retreat with its own living area, ensuite, spa bath and kitchenette. Staff will arrange equipment hire from Bairnsdale.
- The facilities are included and unusual for a wedding venue — indoor heated pool, outdoor heated spa, tennis court, kayaks and canoes, push bikes, a jetty for boats and nature trails, with wi-fi in every lodge.
