About

Overview & Vibe

The Perch stands on the Great Ocean Road at Lavers Hill, the highest point of the drive, deep in the Otway ranges between Apollo Bay and the Twelve Apostles. It is a restaurant, winery and garden first — the owners went looking for land with room for kitchen gardens — and a wedding venue built on top of that. Old-growth forest on three sides, farmland on the fourth.

Setting & Style

A timber building with a vaulted, exposed-beam ceiling and glass down one side to the gardens, so the dining room reads as a room in the forest. Outside there are lawns for ceremonies, brick paths through the gardens, and long tables set under festoon lights for evening service. Both indoor and outdoor options are offered for ceremony and reception.

Ideal For

Couples who want the Otways rather than the coast — forest, fern gullies and kitchen gardens instead of a beach — and who care more about the food than the floor plan.

The Need-to-Knows

  • Nothing is priced and no capacity is published. Packages exist and vary — the venue says plainly that “specific inclusions may vary depending on the wedding package you choose” — but no figures are published. Enquiries go through a form, answered within 48 hours.
  • The kitchen is the point. Menus are custom-built by the venue’s chefs from local produce and its own kitchen gardens, in modern Australian style, with dietary preferences and special requests accommodated.
  • A dedicated wedding team runs planning and on-the-day coordination, and the venue also coordinates outside suppliers — it maintains relationships with local accommodation partners, photographers, florists, cake makers and celebrants.
  • Decor and setup are included: the venue provides table and room decoration, and a professional sound system covering both ceremony and reception.
  • There is no accommodation on site — the owners describe an on-site stay, spa and wellness retreat as a future possibility, not a current offering. Guests stay in Apollo Bay or Lavers Hill; the venue can point at local partners.
  • It trades as a restaurant through the week, lunch from 11am and dinner from 5pm, so a wedding is arranged around normal service.

Standout Feature

A vaulted timber dining room at the top of the Great Ocean Road, surrounded by old-growth forest and its own kitchen gardens.

Price Notes

  • Pricing is provided on enquiry. The venue confirms packages exist and differ - 'Please note that the specific inclusions may vary depending on the wedding package you choose. Our team will be happy to discuss the details and tailor the offerings to meet your specific requirements and preferences' - without naming or pricing any of them. Enquiries go through a form: 'kindly fill out the enquiry form below and we will endeavour to respond to you within 48 hours.'
  • What is included is set out under five headings instead of a price. Venue — versatile spaces indoors and out. A dedicated wedding team, from initial planning through to on-the-day coordination. A customised menu built from locally sourced ingredients in modern Australian style. Plus styling and coordination support.
  • A content note, recorded because it affects what is knowable: the inclusion block headed 'Bar Services' repeats the Customised Menu paragraph word for word rather than describing bar service. The venue therefore publishes no statement of what its bar offering actually covers - confirm on enquiry.
  • Until then the venue coordinates local accommodation partners.
  • It is a trading restaurant: published hours are lunch 11:00am to 2:30pm and dinner 5:00pm until late, with online reservations through SevenRooms.
