Montalto
About
Overview & Vibe
Montalto is a vineyard, restaurant and sculpture park at Red Hill South, in the middle of the Mornington Peninsula. It is one of the region’s serious food destinations — an annual fixture in The Age Good Food Guide — and weddings here are built around that: a four-course set menu from four acres of kitchen gardens, served in a dining room with glass on three sides looking over the vines.
Setting & Style
Ceremonies can go almost anywhere on the estate. The venue names its Sculpture Trail, wetlands, olive grove and vineyards as accessible, and its own photographs show white chairs set on lawn beneath a floral arch between the rows, and a deck ceremony with the valley behind. Afterwards guests take canapés on the Restaurant deck and lawns before moving into the dining room. There is also the Piazza Garden Room — outdoor, undercover, seating 30 — overlooking the kitchen gardens.
Ideal For
Couples for whom the food is the point, at a scale between 15 and 130. It suits a seated, long-lunch-into-evening wedding rather than a big cocktail party, and it removes most of the supplier decisions — venue, furniture, tableware, menus, sound and staff all come in the package.
The Need-to-Knows
Nothing is priced publicly and a minimum spend applies. The site refers to "your minimum spend amount" without ever stating it, and points to 2026/27 packages available on enquiry, so both the floor and the per-head cost are first-conversation questions. The ceremony package includes location hire, a signing table and 34 white garden chairs — more than that is a paid extra, which matters if your guest list runs past the mid-thirties for the ceremony itself. The set menu changes daily and is not chosen dish by dish.
Standout Feature
The kitchen gardens. Four acres of seasonal, heirloom, estate-grown produce sit between the restaurant and the vines, and the wedding menu is written from whatever is ready that week — which is why the venue says your menu will be uniquely yours. Very few wedding venues can say the food was grown within sight of the table.
