The Carrington Inn Bungendore
About
Overview & Vibe
The Carrington Inn has stood on Ellendon Street in Bungendore since 1885 — a village inn twenty-five minutes from Canberra with twenty-six suites, a tavern, two restaurants and a private elm park behind it. It takes weddings from ten guests to two hundred, which is an unusually wide span for one address.
Setting & Style
Four wedding spaces, each published with its own capacity. ELM PARK Event Garden is the big one — three-storey elms, garden follies and a centre aisle the Inn says was “designed for perfect bridal party entrance pacing”, seating 200 for a ceremony. ELM PARK Wedding Garden is the smaller enclosure, entered between two child angel statues and through a tea-rose arch. Rose Cottage Hall is a country hall with a chandeliered lounge and French doors; the Rose Cottage Veranda is glazed on three sides, so it reads as outdoors in any weather.
Ideal For
Couples who want ceremony, reception, dinner and beds inside one gate, and who like the idea of a village wedding — guests can arrive by train, the station being three blocks away. It suits both ends of the size range: forty in a glass veranda, or two hundred under the elms.
The Need-to-Knows
Treat the whole cost structure as a conversation, not a quote. The structure itself is worth knowing: ceremony space is charged per head with a minimum headcount, reception space is charged per head only below a threshold, and the two indoor-adjacent spaces carry a day-of-week minimum spend. Note also that the Event Garden is chilly before 11am and after 4pm outside mid-September to late March.
Standout Feature
The rain contingency, and that it is free. Book either ELM PARK garden and the Inn “reserve[s] the Rose Cottage for you, free of charge, as Carrington Inn’s exclusive Rain Contingency insurance for the event.” An outdoor wedding with a real indoor room held in reserve, at no cost, is rarer than it should be.

Price Notes
- The published pricing is stale — the beverage figures are quoted for 2016 and the wedding information was last updated between 2017 and 2021. No figure from it is reproduced here, so ask for current rates.
- The cost structure is still informative: ceremony space is charged per head with a minimum headcount per space — 20 for the Veranda, 40 for the Hall, 40 for the Wedding Garden and 100 for the Event Garden.
- Reception space is charged per head Only below A THRESHOLD — "No Separate Venue Charge if Food and Beverage service exceeds the minimum number of people noted" (30 Veranda, 40 Hall, 50 Wedding Garden, 80 Event Garden)
- Ceremony venue costs are "reduced by 30% when bridal party is also having their reception at the Inn with a similar or greater amount of guests"
- A minimum spend applies to the Rose Cottage Banquet Hall and the elm park venues only, inclusive of food and drinks, and it varies by day of week — Friday/Saturday, Monday-Thursday, Sunday and public holidays are each set differently, with public holidays the highest
- Free rain contingency: "When a wedding or reception is booked for ELM PARK Wedding Garden, we reserve the Rose Cottage for you, free of charge, as Carrington Inn's exclusive Rain Contingency insurance for the event" — the same applies to the Event Garden
- Reception hire includes tables, tableware, white linen tablecloths and napkins, padded banquet chairs, a sound system for speeches and your playlist, a sparkling wedding curtain (Rose Cottage Hall only), large freestanding white flower baskets, draped gift and guest-book tables, a smokers' seating area and onsite parking
- Ceremony hire includes white folding Americana-style chairs, a sound system for the celebrant and your playlist, flower baskets, draped gift and guest-book tables, a guests' water table and onsite parking; set-up and take-down, wireless microphones, a lectern, signing table and a designated venue supervisor are also included
- Three beverage service models are offered rather than one: fixed-cost Beverage Packages (three tiers, each with a 3-hour and a 4-hour option, wines selected by a sommelier), Tab-limited Bar Service (drinks discounted 8% until the organiser's limit is reached, then guest-pays), and Guest-Pays Service. Under both tab-limited and guest-pays the organiser "will underwrite an average minimum spend" per guest
- Menu formats: a three-course alternate-service menu, a Luxury menu for up to 100, a four- or five-course Degustation for up to 100 with matched wines, and a cocktail reception menu of 8 lighter plus 2 substantial canapes. Serving the wedding cake as plated dessert reduces the per-head charge
- Stage and dance floor are hire items, charged separately
- TIMING: numbers and dietary requirements are confirmed 14 days ahead; final invoicing is "based on contracted, confirmed, or actual numbers, whichever is higher"; a per-person half-hourly labour charge applies to functions running past the agreed finish
- Seasonal note on the event garden: "Between Mid-September and Late-March the tall Elms and the Sun's movement, create the perfect light, shade, and temperature conditions for a garden event. At other times of the year, the garden can be chilly before 11am and after 4pm"
- Meals for entertainers and photographers are charged separately, one course each
- Address 59 Ellendon Street, Bungendore NSW 2621; the Inn dates from 1885
