Grazing occupies The Royal Hotel, Gundaroo — built in 1865 by local William Affleck and classified by the National Trust as a building of historic significance. The restaurant opened in 2003 and is run by husband and wife Kurt and Tanya Neumann, with Kurt as head chef; it is one of Australia’s most awarded regional restaurants. The village sits in the Yass Valley on the Southern Tablelands, thirty minutes from Canberra. The framing throughout is restaurant first — weddings are hosted with the same kitchen and the same ethos, not run as a separate business.

Ceremonies happen outdoors: beneath the canopy of the property’s iconic weeping willow, or among seasonal blooms in the landscaped gardens, with an edible garden and orchard alongside and cattle grazing in the neighbouring pastures. Drinks and canapés follow on the timber deck. The reception is the Stone Room — a restored, stone-walled dining hall with vaulted timber ceilings, garden views and fairy lights. For smaller gatherings the original hotel’s private dining rooms take up to 20.

It handles a wide span — 15 to 110 seated, or up to 200 standing — so it suits both an intimate dinner and a full reception.
