Lake George Winery sits on the shores of Lake George at Collector, a 30-minute drive from both Canberra and Goulburn — family-owned, and planted in 1973 by Geoff and Arlen Hood as “Westering Vineyard”, named for the westerly winds. Fifty years on it runs a cellar door, a restaurant, three cottages and a wedding business out of the same estate.
The reception room is the dining room — rustic polished floorboards, an open fireplace, large windows over the vineyard and the rural landscape, and a verandah. Below it is the private cellar, a stone-walled room set among the estate’s wine museum, used as the wet-weather option, as a bridal-party space, for pre-dinner drinks, or as a reception in its own right for a small wedding. Ceremonies have two named sites: The Oak Tree, set with fifteen white chairs, wine barrels and an arch, and The Vines, reached by a walk through the rows.
Couples who want one estate to hold the whole weekend. The dining room seats 120 formally or takes 300 standing, so it scales from an intimate cellar dinner to a large cocktail reception, and three cottages sleep 13, 4 and 2 on site — two of them pet friendly. The kitchen leads with estate produce and the winery’s own cool-climate wines, and there is a restaurant, Westering, plus a dining dome for smaller occasions.
No wedding pricing is published — packages are customised and quoted through a detailed request form, so expect to state guest numbers, season and format before you see a number. The form also sets a booking rule worth knowing early: accommodation for weddings carries a two-night minimum. The cellar door is closed Monday and Tuesday and the restaurant runs Wednesday to Sunday, so time a site visit. And note the site itself is in poor repair: the restaurant page has been hijacked by spam and shows gambling content rather than a menu, so use the contact details rather than that page.
The cellar. A stone-walled room beneath the dining room, lit low, set among the estate’s wine museum — it works as a wet-weather ceremony space, a bridal retreat and a dinner room for a small wedding, which is three problems solved by one room most wineries do not have.
