Australia's largest working camel farm, at Yulara in the shadow of Uluru, and the holder of what it calls “the closest private sand dune to World Heritage-listed Uluru”. The farm has been running since 1998 and hires its dune and its grounds out for weddings, elopements, filming and photoshoots — exclusively or alongside its tours.

Setting & Style

The ceremony site is the dune top, with panoramic views across the desert to the Rock. The farm itself is the second half of the picture and it is deliberately theatrical: a ‘wild west 1880s’ Staging Post with rustic signage housing a fully restored Cobb & Co stagecoach, a twelve-seater wagon and a three-seater buggy; a working saddlery where every saddle and harness on the property is made by hand; and a windmill salvaged from Curtin Springs Station. Couples in the farm's own photographs are married on the dune and photographed against the Royal Mail Hotel frontage and the coach.

Ideal For

Elopements and very small weddings that want Uluru itself in the frame, on private land rather than in the national park.

The Need-to-Knows

Nothing is published — no capacity, no hire fee, no package. The venue-hire page is a single descriptive section and a name to contact. That is the whole of it, and it is worth knowing before you plan around it.

Exclusive use is offered but is not the default. The farm states the site “can be hired for exclusive and non-exclusive use”, and the farm itself is open to the public daily with free entry. Establish which you are buying.
Elopements run through a third party. “Together with the team at Elope Australia, we can make your special day truly memorable.” Elope Australia is a separate business.
It is a working farm with a tour timetable. Five tours a day, and public farm hours of 9am–3pm from April to October and 9am–12.30pm from November to March. A ceremony has to fit around, or buy out, that schedule.
Getting there is a flight, not a drive. Yulara is 450km south of Alice Springs and 314km west of Kings Canyon; Yulara Airport takes direct flights from Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, with a free shuttle to the resort hotels.

THE FARM IS ALSO MARKETED AS A FILMING LOCATION and the same page sells both: 'Venue Hire - Wedding Ceremonies | Filming Location'. Its image library is heavy with film-crew photographs, which is a useful signal of what the site is used for but not of what a wedding there looks like.
THE FARM'S HISTORY IS PUBLISHED AND HAS CHANGED HANDS TWICE: 'Uluru Camel Tours was founded in 1998 by NT tourism pioneers, Nick and Michelle Smail. After operating at the rock successfully for seven years, they then sold the company to Wana Ungkunytja, an Aboriginal-owned corporation, in July 2005. Wana Ungkunytja operated the farm for six years, however being corporation-owned and managed from Alice Springs some 460km to the north things did not work in the farm's favour... March 1st 2011 the business changed hands... The business has grown from a small operation in 2011, conducting three tours per day, to the largest working camel farm in Australia operating five tours per day.'
LOCATED INSIDE THE AYERS ROCK RESORT TOWNSHIP BUT INDEPENDENT OF IT: 'We are located at Voyages Ayers Rock Resort, the gateway to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.' RECORDED FOR TRANSPARENCY - the business trades under its own name on its own domain with its own owners, so it is listed on that basis. Ayers Rock Resort itself was ruled out of this campaign in Batch 98 for publishing no wedding content of its own; the two are not the same entity.
