Bay of Fires Bush Retreat

East Coast Tasmania / Freycinet, Tasmania Capacity: Up to 80

About

Overview & Vibe

A boutique glamping retreat on 25 acres of coastal bush at Binalong Bay, minutes from the orange-lichened granite of the Bay of Fires. Ten bell tents, a king room and a bunkhouse sit among the gums around a steel-and-timber kitchen and dining pavilion, an honesty bar and fire-pit gathering areas. The hosts, Tom and Anna, live on site.

Setting & Style

Understated architecture in raw steel, concrete and timber, set back in the bush rather than on the water. The dining pavilion opens on three sides and lights up at night; the fire pit is where the evening ends. It is deliberately communal — a fully equipped shared kitchen, a veggie garden, and a hand-crafted amenities block a short walk from the tents.

Ideal For

Couples who want a three-night destination wedding weekend with everyone sleeping on site, and who like the idea of a bush camp rather than a ballroom.

The Need-to-Knows

  • Weddings are a three-night minimum with exclusive use. The package is “exclusive use of the retreat, event venue hire, and three nights' accommodation across all on-site options for up to 30 guests”, with no other bookings on the property.
  • Up to 40 guests as standard, and up to 80 occasionally. “We offer a small number of extended-capacity weddings each year for up to 80 guests.” Thirty sleep on site; the rest come for the day.
  • BYO everything. Both catering and alcohol are yours to arrange — “Many couples choose to work with local chefs or food trucks”, and for drinks the retreat provides “fridges, ice tubs, and glassware” and will load your beverages into the bar fridges.
  • Wedding pricing is quoted, not published, but the retreat does publish its exclusive group rates: $135 / $110 / $90 per person per night by season, based on 30 guests. Those are group-booking rates, not a wedding package price.
  • Dietary needs are covered. The in-house pre-prepared meals “cater to a range of dietary needs including Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten-free options”, and there is a $25pp breakfast platter.
  • Nearly ten years of weddings here, by the retreat's own count.
  • No pets“We have an abundance of native wildlife that we want to remain safe and undisturbed.”

Standout Feature

Three nights of the whole bush camp to yourselves, ten minutes from the Bay of Fires.

'Email ... for a tailored quote - please include your approximate guest numbers and specific dates or month/year. If you're looking for more cost-effective options, ask about any low or shoulder season offers that might be available.'
  • THE RATES THAT ARE PUBLISHED ARE GROUP-BOOKING RATES, NOT WEDDING RATES, AND ARE RECORDED AS SUCH. From the Exclusive Bookings page: 'Below is a guide to our per-person seasonal rates... Nightly Rate per Person (based on 30 guests): High Season 1st December - 28th February (includes Friday, Saturday + Sundays, Easter and all public holidays applicable to Tasmania) $135. Shoulder Season 1st March - 31st May and 1st September - 30th November $110. Low Season 1st June - 31st July $90. Please note that the rates above are calculated for a group of 30 guests. Some periods require a minimum stay of 2 or 3 nights. Pricing is subject to change.' price_per_head is NULL because these are accommodation rates for an exclusive group booking, not a wedding per-head catering figure.
  • THE WEDDING PACKAGE IS DEFINED EVEN THOUGH THE PRICE IS NOT: 'Our wedding packages include exclusive use of the retreat, event venue hire, and three nights' accommodation across all on-site options for up to 30 guests. You're welcome to host up to 40 guests for the wedding reception. All bookings also include access to our communal spaces.' And the binding condition: 'Are there any minimum stay or spend requirements? Yes - wedding bookings require a minimum three-night stay and exclusive use of the retreat.'
  • BOTH CATERING AND ALCOHOL ARE BYO, WITH FACILITIES PROVIDED. 'Can we bring our own catering? Yes - you're welcome to organise your own catering. Many couples choose to work with local chefs or food trucks, and we're happy to recommend trusted suppliers familiar with our space. We also provide access to kitchen facilities and prep areas to help things run smoothly.' 'Can we BYO alcohol? Yes - BYO alcohol is welcome. We provide access to fridges, ice tubs, and glassware, and our team will load your beverages into our bar fridges so they're displayed beautifully and ready for your guests to enjoy.'
  • STANDARD-STAY EXTRAS, WHICH ARE NOT WEDDING PRICING BUT SET THE SCALE: 'Our base rate for each accommodation option includes 2 guests. Additional guests are $70 per person, per night.' 'The maximum number of guests that can be accommodated in a Bell Tent is strictly 3.' 'Our Bunk House is the perfect option for families. Complete with a king bed for parents and 4 single bunks for the kids, our Bunk House sleeps 6 comfortably.' 'If your heart is set on our Bell Tents, children aged 12+ are welcome.' • THE WEEKEND CAN BE MORE THAN THE WEDDING: 'Can we host additional events over the weekend? With exclusive access to the retreat across three nights, you're welcome to make the most of your time here. We're happy to discuss options for welcome dinners, recovery brunches, or relaxed evening drinks.'
  • EXPERIENCE IS CLAIMED AND DATED: 'With nearly 10 years' experience in hosting weddings, you can rest assured your special day is in safe hands.'
  • NO PETS: 'Can I bring my dog/pets? As much as we love animals, we're not set up for guests to bring their own. We have an abundance of native wildlife that we want to remain safe and undisturbed.'
  • THE POSTAL AND PHYSICAL ADDRESSES DIFFER AND THE SITE SAYS SO: 'PO Box 500, St Helens, Lutruwita/Tasmania 7216' and '795 Reids Road, Binalong Bay, Lutruwita/Tasmania 7216. Please note that we cannot receive postage items at this address.' The physical address is recorded.
