A white weatherboard chapel with a Gothic arched door, standing alone on a clifftop lawn on the grounds of Ventnor Estate, Phillip Island, looking north across Bass Strait to the Mornington Peninsula. It is a ceremony venue and nothing else; there is no reception here.
Setting & Style
Timber pews inside, a bell tower and pointed windows outside, and then nothing but mown grass running to the cliff edge and the sea. A separate Summer House can be added for a small pre- or post-ceremony gathering — cake and champagne rather than a sit-down.
Ideal For
Couples who want the ceremony to be the thing: a small chapel service on a headland, then everyone drives to dinner somewhere else on the island.
The Need-to-Knows
- The whole price list is published, and it is hire by the hour, not per head. The Chapel is $4,500–$6,000 depending on guest band and whether you book two hours or three. The Summer House adds $1,000–$1,500 and can only be booked with the three-hour block. Extra hours are a flat $500.
- There is no reception.“Can I have a marquee reception on site? No at present we are not providing this service.” The Summer House is for “a small pre or post event function” only.
- The chapel seats 80 and the pews cannot be moved.“Our Chapel seats 80 guests comfortably or up to 130 guests standing”, and the booking form’s top band runs to a maximum of 150 — but everyone above 80 “will be required to stand outside, in the Summer House or in the gardens.” Asked directly whether pews can come out: “Unfortunately, pews cannot be removed.”
- Toilets are on you. Over 80 guests a portable toilet is strongly recommended; over 100 it is mandatory.
- So is the gate.“you will be required to provide a person on the front gate to ensure that only invited guests enter the premises.”
- Access is only 1–1½ hours before the ceremony, flowers must arrive and leave on the day, and there is a $500 bond plus a $1,000 non-refundable booking fee.
- Plan the transport.“Is Uber available on the Island? Not normally. Guest should either be bussed in or share rides where appropriate.” Download your music beforehand too — “being on the edge of a cliff, the internet isn’t always reliable.”

- Chapel hire by guest count — up to 50, 50 to 100, or over 100 to a maximum of 150. Two hours, with no extension: $4,500 / $5,000 / $5,500. Three hours: $5,000 / $5,500 / $6,000. Extra hours are a flat $500.
- The deposit and bond: 'An additional bond of $500 is payable with the balance one month prior to the event date, to cover any damage or breakages. Or if required to make up any additional payments for extra staff or time.' 'To make a booking please complete, sign and return this form together with a non-refundable booking fee of $1000. Booking will only be accepted and confirmed once the below form is completed and payment is received.'
- Toilets are your responsibility, and the venue publishes the threshold: over 80 guests it strongly recommends hiring a portable toilet, and over 100 one must be hired. That is a real cost most venues absorb and this one does not.
