Tallagandra Hill is a family-owned winery in the Gundaroo foothills, thirty minutes from Canberra city and airport and two and a half hours from Sydney, where a working twelve-acre vineyard doubles as one of the Canberra District’s most characterful wedding venues.

Setting & Style

The owners call it a ‘wed shed’, and the description fits. The main event space is contemporary rural Australian — heritage timbers and modern art steel pieces under curated lighting, seating a hundred and sixty on Belloch designer chairs at handmade blackbutt tables. Handmade barn doors open the room, and what the owners rate the most welcoming timber bar in the region anchors it. Upstairs, a gallery gives private dining or a quiet moment overlooking the forecourt and vineyard, alongside an outdoor deck and an internal timber balcony built for speeches and performances. Outside, the forecourt takes two hundred for cocktails and leads to the ceremony space, set against the vineyard, heritage structures and the Goddess sculptures that survey the hill.

On Site Accommodation

Three separate self-contained one-bedroom cottages on the winery property, described as boutique vineyard accommodation and offered for the bridal party and VIPs. Each cottage sleeps two adults and has a queen-sized bed, private bathroom, lounge area, covered deck and a functioning kitchen with a four-burner gas stove, microwave and fridge but no oven. Rates are $245 per night per cabin on Friday and Saturday and $225 Sunday to Thursday, with a two-night minimum (three nights on long weekends) and continental breakfast included; check-in from 2pm, checkout by 10am. The cottages do not accommodate children under 17 or animals, being designed as an adults' escape. The accommodation won Gourmet Traveller WINE's Cellar Door with Best Vineyard Accommodation in both 2021 and 2022.

Catering and beverage packages are offered in a wide variety of options through Bella's Feast Catering with service by Black and White Waiters, and wines come from the single vineyard winery on site. The published prices on the property are for the three self-contained vineyard cottages: $245 per night per cabin on Friday and Saturday nights and $225 per night per cabin Sunday to Thursday, both with a two-night minimum stay (three nights on long weekends) and continental breakfast included. Check-in is from 2pm and checkout by 10am. The cellar door opens by appointment for group bookings of 15 or more, where a tasting of seven wines with a small cheese plate is $15 per person, booked at least a week in advance.
